New students

Dear student

Welcome to Enschede! Whether you've just moved here or you're still finding your way around, this page is a shortcut past the first-year guesswork. Below you'll find the places we actually use: where to study, what to do between lectures, and where to go when we go out!

Where to Study

On campus

  • The Sirius room — Our own space, and the easiest place to study if you'd rather not do it alone. Come by, grab a seat, and you'll usually find someone from the association there.
  • Technohal — Plenty of desks and a good balance between quiet and social. Fills up fast around exam periods, so come early.
  • Vrijhof — Central, comfortable, and home to the university library. Good for long days.
  • Langezijds — Bright, spacious and one of the newer buildings on campus. A favorite for group work.

In the city centre

  • The public library (Bibliotheek Enschede) — Quiet, free to use, and a nice change of scenery when campus starts to feel repetitive.
  • Douwe Egberts café — Coffee, background noise, and enough table space to actually get something done.
  • Wallstreet —Study space de Wallstreet is the perfect spot for a day of quiet, focused studying. Right in the city centre, with generous opening hours and a coffee machine within easy reach.

What to Do Between Lectures

A two-hour gap doesn't have to be wasted:

  • Drop by the Sirius room. Easily the fastest way to meet people.
  • Play pool in the Bastille. You'll need a Union Card, so it's worth sorting one out early.
  • Go for a walk. The campus is genuinely beautiful — wooded paths, open fields, and a pond. Ten minutes outside resets your afternoon.
  • Do some sport. The Sportcentrum on campus has almost everything, and there are student rates.
  • Or just study. Sometimes the gap is the best study slot you'll get all day.

Going Out in Enschede

Enschede is a student city, and it shows. A few places worth knowing:

On campus

  • Vestingbar — The classic campus bar. Cheap, easy, and always someone you know.
  • Technobar — Every Thursday a drink, next to the Sirius room.

In the city

  • RGB — Silent disco. Three channels, three headphone colours, and no arguments about the music.
  • Wigwam — Karaoke. No talent required, and none expected.
  • Aspen Valley — Relaxed bar, good for a night that starts early and drifts.
  • De Pakkerij — Several bars in one building, so you can move on without going outside.
  • Friends — A dependable stop on any night out in the centre.
